Background

Lloyd graduated from Auckland University in 2001 with an LLB and a BCom (Honours) in Economics.  Lloyd has approaching two decades of experience as a trusted advisor in the areas of property, infrastructure and construction and commercial law.  Lloyd’s experience is extensive and diverse.  The first decade in private practice with Russell McVeagh in their Auckland commercial property department and two years in the United Kingdom in the Real Estate Projects team at Dentons (one of the World’s largest law firms) in its London City office.  Lloyd was heavily involved with the Crown repurchase of rail in 2008 to form KiwiRail leading to Lloyd joining KiwiRail as Senior Corporate Counsel and lead property lawyer in 2010.  Lloyd was with KiwiRail for six plus years at a Senior and General Counsel level during a period of rapid change for the business. In 2017 Lloyd joined Heimsath Alexander.  Lloyd is responsible for managing the firm’s property and construction practice and the client relationship with KiwiRail.  Lloyd strives to be a trusted advisor to clients providing them with pragmatic and commercially focused advice.

Experience

All aspects of property including: acquisition, sale and development for commercial, residential, apartment and mixed use, sports facilities, resort and hotel together with related structuring.  Leasing, property portfolio management and corporate support and property dispute resolution work. Construction contracts and infrastructure works development and consultancy contract negotiation, including NZS391X suite of documents, FIDIC and ACENZ.  Lloyd is a member of the Society of Construction Law New Zealand and the solicitor for a number of subcontractor businesses and legal advisor to CCCANZ and IRHACE. Public Works Act for the acquisition, development, use and disposal of land held for Public Works and dealings with Crown and public sector land holdings. General commercial, governance and procurement advisory services. Advice and advocacy on commercial, insurance, construction and property dispute resolution. Other sector experience includes: forestry, fibre optic, IT and Treaty settlements involving Crown land.
